Steppe Mind proudly partners with Secret History, an award-winning hospitality and accommodation brand dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich heritage of Mongolia. Founded in 2005, the company takes its name from The Secret History of the Mongols—a UNESCO-recognized literary masterpiece that chronicles the life, traditions, and culture of Chinggis Khaan and his descendants. Inspired by this legacy, Secret History invites travelers to create their own unforgettable journeys across Mongolia.

A Legacy of Leadership: Oyun-Erdene Battulga

At the heart of Mongolian Secret History’s success is its CEO, Oyun-Erdene Battulga, who has carried the legacy of her parents and elevated the company to new heights. Taking over the family business in 2013 in her early twenties, Oyun-Erdene has demonstrated remarkable leadership and vision. Her efforts to modernize and expand the company have positioned Mongolian Secret History as one of the leading names in Mongolia’s hospitality industry.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Oyun-Erdene’s leadership was instrumental in developing the Secret of the Silk Road Camp despite halted material exports, rising costs, and a tourism standstill—a testament to her resilience and expertise. With a bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management and an MSc in Marketing and Business Management from Oxford Brookes University, she brings strategic and operational excellence to the company.

Three Unique Ger Camps at the Crossroads of History

Mongolian Secret History operates three extraordinary ger camps in distinct regions of Mongolia, each offering cultural immersion, historical significance, and modern comfort:

  • Secret of Ongi Camp
Strategically located at the crossroads between South Gobi and Kharkhorin, this camp offers travelers a perfect blend of history, nature, and accessibility. A key highlight is the nearby Ongi Monastery, a historical gem nestled along the scenic Ongi River, providing visitors with a glimpse into Mongolia’s spiritual past.
  • Mongolian Secret History Complex
Situated 114 km from Ulaanbaatar in Central Province, this camp is an essential stop en route to Khovsgol Lake. With its tranquil setting, it offers guests a retreat steeped in cultural and natural harmony.
  • Secret of the Silk Road Camp
Inspired by King Ögedei’s Tumen Amgalant Ordon, this camp combines historical grandeur with modern luxury. Located near Erdenezuu Monastery, one of Mongolia’s most significant cultural landmarks, it provides guests with unparalleled access to the spiritual and historical treasures of Kharkhorin.

Supporting Local Communities and Sustainable Growth

Mongolian Secret History is more than a hospitality brand—it is a driver of sustainable growth. By sourcing organic ingredients and materials locally, the camps support Mongolia’s economy, create jobs, and promote traditional craftsmanship. As one of the country’s longest-standing hospitality companies, they offer training programs to enhance employees’ skills and even organize meditation sessions with local monks during peak seasons for the well-being of staff and guests alike.

Steppe Mind is honored to collaborate with Mongolian Secret History, a brand that seamlessly blends tradition, innovation, and sustainability.
